Rain, Rain, and more RAIN

Beginning Thursday of last week, we have had constant rain, only finally stopping today. This rain was the kind of rain that is just steady, no storms, for about 72 hours straight (maybe a break here and there, but not much). As luck had it, we just happened to have plans to go to my sister Holly's, brother and sister-in-law's home in the country in Lane, KS, about 10 miles southwest from Osawatomie, KS, for a 4th of July get together on Saturday. Here's a news story.

As we were driving in, we were told that we had to take an alternate route as the one normally taken was flooded. Then, on the alternate route, we just missed water coming over the road on Hwy 59. This was a little scary as you hear all the time of flash flooding, and this was definitely just that! We wondered whether or not to turn around and go home, but couldn't help but wonder if other roads behind us were now flooded and we would get stuck in the middle of no where! So we decided to go the next 5 or so miles and just prepare to have to stay the night (we were planning on coming back that night).

Well, it continued to rain up until around 1am or so and their back yard had a pretty wide "river" running through it, which normally wasn't there. People would come to the get-together saying such and such road was closed now. Poor Penny & Tom (Holly's sister and brother in law) had to provide sleeping quarters for 23 people, including themselves)!!! Thankfully they have a big house and had enough supplies. I got a bed (pregnancy advantages ;) and actually slept well. This morning we left and took the way we took to get there as the more direct route through Osawatamie (as in article above) was flooded. Crazy!

Despite all that craziness, it was a good time and we had fun just eating, relaxing, playing games, and mostly playing Chris' new Wii (I just watched). Today is sunny and warmer without rain (at least in KC) and I am happy for that!!! We thought for sure the premiere of "Evan Almighty" was to blame (hehe!). Thanks, again, to Penny & Tom for being such great host/hostess!!!

That is crazy! Thank goodness that the rain cleared up just in time for Tessa to have her little friends over for her 4th birthday! Glad you are home safely!

Yeah, what a nutty day! Thanks for coming though - we still had fun! They hoped it didn't deter you from coming to future events, I said it wouldn't ;)
Penny thought you guys were quite the troopers :)
